News Release - The Wellington Township Trustees will meet with a representative from OTARMA at 6 pm on Tuesday, June 7th at 105 Maple Street in the Township meeting room. The representative will review the insurance policy and any recommendations that the agency has for the township.

Wellington Township Dumpster Day/Lorain County Beautiful Day - Dumpster Day for Wellington Township will take place on Saturday, May 21st from 9 am to 1 pm at 105 Maple Street in Wellington. There will be dumpsters available and scrap and Freon appliances will be accepted. The Township will accept canes, wheelchairs, walkers, eyeglasses and cell phones. Residents may also drop off batteries from a car or lawnmower. NO hazardous or infectious wastes, brush, waste oil, bricks, rocks or concrete, dirt or any materials prohibited by the state or federal law from being land filled will be accepted. The maintenance facility will be closed during this event.  Tires will not be collected.

David Fisher Bio for Wellington Township Website - David Fisher grew up in LaGrange, Ohio, is a graduate of Keystone high school and Lorain County Community College. David and his wife Nancy have been married 50 years and have two children. He is a longtime resident of Wellington Township and a dedicated public servant. David served on the Wellington Exempted Village school board, 20 years on the Wellington Fire Department and a number of years as a member of the Wellington Kiwanis. David, an Electrical Engineer, recently retired after 29 years with Forest City Technologies Inc. Fisher said he is looking forward to continuing his community service as a Wellington Township Trustee.

First Energy Transmission Helicopter Patrols - First Energy will be conducting Annual Vegetation Management Aerial Patrols. Vegetation Aerial inspections are scheduled during the April through September time frame covering all transmission facilities system-wide annually. Patrols are intended to identify conditions that may be a threat to the safety and reliability of the transmission system.

Please be advised that Industrial Aviation will be the helicopter company assisting in the inspections on all Ohio Edison Transmission Lines, beginning June 1st through September 30th, weather permitting.

The pilot will be in communication with any local Airports when in their airspace. The helicopter will be flying at a speed of about 35-40 mph above or alongside the lines and may circle around for a closer inspection.

The helicopter  is a gun metal gray Bell 206-L-4 with a tail number of N404MP. See photo below:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PUBLIC NOTICE - May Trustee Meeting Date Moved - Due to Election Day falling on a regularly scheduled trustee meeting night, the Wellington Township Board of Trustee's Chairman announced that the regular May trustee meeting will be held on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting location is the Wellington Township Complex at 105 Maple Street.

Agricultural Tire Collection - The Lorain County Commissioners are announcing an agricultural tire collection day set for September 9, 2021. This event is funded by the Lorain County Solid Waste Management District and the Lorain County Commissioners.  For more information, please see the attached brochure <here>

Ohio Edison Inspections of Power Lines - Please be advised that starting on Monday, January 18th, weather permitting, Haverfield will be mobilizing two inspection crews to the Ohio Edison region and will begin performing comprehensive visual inspections (CVIs) on all Ohio Edison 345kV lines, and then on select 138kV lines at a later date. The inspections on the 345kV lines are anticipated to take three to four weeks to complete, but all work is strongly weather dependent and inclement weather or any line outage patrols may prolong completion. The helicopters to be used for these inspections are as follows:

 

  • Black, Hughes MD500 with red, tail registration number N353AH 

  • Black, Hughes MD500 with red, tail registration number N363CC -

A comprehensive visual inspection (CVI) is a slow, structure-by-structure, span-by-span inspection where the inspector onboard the helicopter gets a thorough look from top to bottom of each structure, associated hardware, and conductors of the transmission line(s). The helicopter will be moving very slowly along each of the transmission lines and will often be seen hovering while carrying out these inspections.
